re:The regular classroo...
The regular classroom teacher is the most important, because most of the time the kid is under her supervision. For my son, he only has 4 hours per week special education time this year to attend small reading and speech group. I think the smaller IEP group can provide the kids more social opportunities and practice his spoken language. It is difficult for our kids to involve in a whole class discussion because of their attention, language and social skills. Last year my son was placed in a 6-kids reading group, most kids in this group are normal, but have reading problem. The special education teacher separated them into two football teams and each of them label with a famous team name. All the kids in each group should work together to finish their reading question. Every kid in the team which scored higher will get a prize. I don’t think this really improves their reading skills, but I do feel my son understood what the team work is after this activity, which makes me very happy.
The school always adjusts the IEP service based on their observation, not our request. The school IEP will figure out some problems, but maybe not as many as you expected.
