Asthma

Dr. Cannell: My two children (age 5 and 7) have had asthma almost since they were born. In the winter, they are in and out of the hospital, it's horrible it is to see your child struggling for breath. Last fall I started both of my children on 2,000 IU of vitamin D a day and over the last year the asthma has just faded away. I'm afraid to stop their asthma medications but they don't seem to need them anymore. When I forget to give their asthma meds, I can't see any difference. Before the vitamin D, if I missed a dose of their asthma meds, I would know it very quickly. Could it be the vitamin D? Joanne, Minnesota

It seems increasingly likely that childhood asthma is but another presentation of vitamin D deficiency. At least two researchers at Harvard think so—they think it is the result of maternal vitamin D deficiency. Litonjua AA, Weiss ST. Is vitamin D deficiency to blame for the asthma epidemic? However, I have heard from a number of parents who wrote to tell me their child's asthma went away after taking vitamin D. Also, a paper is in press that shows low vitamin D levels are a risk factor for exacerbations of asthma in children. Zoler ML. Low vitamin D levels linked to asthma exacerbations. Pediatric News. Volume 42, Issue 7, Page 28 (July 2008).

So, it appears that childhood asthma can also be caused by simple childhood vitamin D deficiency, and thus perhaps cured by simple vitamin D. If so, asthma is yet another disease the dermatologists worsened, one killing about 200 American children every year.

Yes, you definitely can change from full day to half day. He has IEP, right? so IEP means placement should be individualized. Most importantly, it is less work for school. They will be fine with it. Maybe they will be secretly happy about it.

Do you stay at home? you plan to do the other half day with him yourself?

我觉得小城的心智比小火炉成熟哎，像这种话“feel stressful because he can not work out the project.”，“dona is mean"，小火炉是说不出来的。我觉得他都是高高兴兴的，根本感觉不出这些。要不就是哪个老师比较严厉，他就不愿跟她，然后小火炉就挑软柿子跟着。

关于上学，我估计如果老是生病，可能学校看到后，自动就给调解了吧？我想kindergarten还是很灵活的。我这里还羡慕你们全天的教育呢。当然了，孩子总生病是很让人心焦的。

“ 缺乏目的性和顺序感是他社交中致命缺陷”其实这不仅关系到他的社交，首先关系到的是他平时生活也因为这个而一团糟，还有学习和工作，所以平时的生活中帮助他理顺顺序并学习建立顺序是非常重要的，还有无论做什么事情都要让他时时明白目的，直奔目的而去，不要半途改道，到后来要他找捷径到目的地。
虽然以琳的训练方法中好像很少直接体现出结构化，但老师备课都使用结构化的思维，或者我们说MINE MAP。我在训练石头和培训老师的时候这些方法也是必用的。
比如老郭举例的领礼物，要是我肯定会在头一天晚上把第二天能想到的要发生的事情都分门别类画图给他。像领礼物，我会一个箭头指向礼物，旁边画上老师及礼物。那条直线上会有分叉，大大的问号里面写着会或者可能发生的事情，比如要排队（岔开，不能插队，也不让别人插队，再岔开如果有人插队怎么办？）；拿礼物的时候的问候语，致谢的话；有人抢你礼物怎么办?等等等等，按图和孩子说几遍。等孩子长大点了，这个图就可以由他自己部分完成到全部完成，再能够在脑袋里形成这个图，而不需要专门画出来。这样的训练为孩子将来听课等做准备，他可以很轻松知道该如何记笔记，以及如何分头消化知识。

以上是从老郭那儿拿来的， 是方静老师写的， 有点象social story的形式。 我现在每次带小成出去都要跟他讲好rule,  让他背几遍， 图书馆的规则， 商店的规则， 等等

中午和小城一起唱 “I love you, you love me, we are happy family" 来训练他的人称代词， 想一想能弄清楚， 但还是容易搞混， 有时候就瞎说， 这非常影响他和别人的交流， 还是要多训练。

最近speech therapy停了两个多月， 感觉说话就粘粘糊糊的， 不大清楚的样子， 平时还要多纠正。 哎， 稍微放松点， 问题就来了。

对，对于人称代词，平常的时候多训练，然后日常对话，那种随意的对话中多纠正，慢慢就好了。

我们外面1：1的speech therapy已经停了半年了，因为今年保险换成了我们单位的，不给报了，只报那种器质性损伤而造成的说话问题。现在想看看秋季上学后，学校能不能对家里主要语言不是英语的家庭提不提供额外服务呢。

上午爸爸带他去我们小镇的children parade, 临走前我和他谈， 说“I want to know about the parade. Tell me what you see after coming back." 回到家后我问”hey, tell my about the parade. was it fun?" 他急急忙忙地从我身边冲过，奔着餐桌上的菜就过去了， 嘴里应付我说“i walked in the parade. There are lot of children ride bicycle and scooter. I want to ride bicycle. I ate hotdogs." 完成任务就不理我了。这可能是他的性格吧， 非常懒于描述事情的发生经过。 不过现在训练了一下比以前好多了。

发现小城在陌生环境里对周围人的漠视是一大问题。 下午一家人去离家10分钟远的一个fishing and boating store玩。 这个店很大， 顶很高， 装饰成森林海洋的样子， 里面有游艇，小瀑布， 小桥流水， 用真熊皮stuff的大灰熊，野营帐篷，一下子就让我想起以前去黄石公园玩的情景。 这个店夏天每天下午对公众开放，里面有不少小孩窜来窜去。 有一家人站在大灰熊前照相， 小城见到大灰熊就想冲上去， 我赶快把他拽住， 问”what are they doing?" He answered "taking pic". I said "if you disturb them, they will not be happy" 他还好， 听了以后就走开了， 怎么样能让他主动观察别人呢？

其实小城的表述也很不错！
对物的兴趣大过人的兴趣，俊俊也是相同的问题，他有兴趣的东西，他就扑过去，根本没考虑会不会影响别人。

小城都摘帽了，妈妈还这么努力呀？至今为止，我好像就正正经经地看过两本书，一本是格老的那个floortime，还有一本就是列出训练项目的ABA progress report了（都记不清了），现在也都忘了。

小城的IEP没了吧？还会有别的服务么？
