我现在对他们的估计是大约有8-10个月的language delay, without taking into account the fact that they live in a four-language environment. It's hard to factor in the environment though--how many months of delay should the environment factor offset?
There's a reason why ASD is called a "spectrum"--there's such a wide range of symptoms and any one child could have a random combination of some of the symptoms. No two ASD children are identical, yet I see (or imagine) various traits my children have in common with other ASD kids. I wish somebody could give me a "yes" or "no" answer, as this question has been tormenting me to death. Well, not quite, I'm exaggerating. Part of me doesn't really want to know. What would it change anyway? A different answer would not change what I'm doing or plan to do. Maybe it will give me some peace of mind. Maybe it won't, as I'll undoubtedly question its validity. So maybe I should just save myself the trouble and not bother with finding out "the answer". Just doing what I need to do takes enough of my time and energy. |
