I think we need to look at research. Dr. Gustein published an article on Evaluation of the Relationship Development Intervention Program to examine how effective RDI is. In this report, he said no children met the criteria of autism after the RDI intervention. If we look at the data, the 16 kids participated in this study have IQ ranging from 70 to 118. In special education, below 70 is regarded as intellectual impairment. In other words, none of these kids have cognitive disability. The data also shows that these kids stay in RDI program for almost 3 yeas;some received RDI intervention for more than 6 years. Many potential factors can account for the outcome. Again, about the ADOS he used in the study. ADOS is considered the "golder measurement" so far for autism. I happened to know the ADOS training director. According to her, Gustein and his team are not trained to use ADOS, so the data on that are not reliable. And if you have more questions about RDI, you can email Gustein himself:gutstein@rdiconnect.com
BTW, if you are in U.S, can you contact me? I am thinking maybe we can work together to help parents and kids in China through using the resources here. At least, we can discuss about it.
